Enterprise Service Management

Enterprise Service Management means very much the same thing as Service Management. The reason the term is used is that it emphasises that the services being mentioned are not IT, but commercial, enterprise-wide services.

Enterprise Service Management, is a subset of Service Governance. It is, in fact, the way Service Governance addresses the management aspect of governing services.

The management of an organisation through the use of the Service metaphor. Service Management has evolved from two directions. The one is the recognition that business has become more and more service orientated, and that it is necessary to govern and manage services appropriately, and services. The other is the traditional IT use of the service metaphor that has led to a large amount of well-tested Best Practice information being available that can easily be adapted to non-IT services.
